The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has been accused of malpractice after an intrauterine foetal death (or, a stillbirth) was recently recorded at the hospital.

The corporation has, however, stated that complications with the pregnant woman resulted in the death of the baby in the womb. In a statement, the GPHC posited that the relevant protocols were followed in the admission and treatment of the patient.

See below the full release from the GPHC:

The GPHC takes note of the social media post that is being circulated concerning the unfortunate death of the baby of a patient who was recently in our care.

While our commitment to patient confidentiality does not permit us to disclose the specifics of the patient’s medical profile, the institution wishes to clarify that shortly after the patient was admitted to the GPHC, it was noted that her complicated pregnancy resulted in an intrauterine fetal death.

Our team immediately deployed the relevant protocols in the admission and treatment of the patient based on her diagnosis. We are confident that our medical team exercised sound and timely judgement in the medical management of this patient.

The hospital’s administration will continue to avail themselves to the patient and her family to answer any questions and address their concerns.
