An 86-year-old woman from Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) is the latest COVID-19 death taking the overall deaths recorded to 1,286, the Ministry of Health on Wednesday reported.

The woman died on December 20; her vaccination status is unknown.

This is the first COVID fatality recorded in December. The previous COVID-19 death, a 40-year-old pregnant woman from Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne), was recorded on November 9.

That woman was receiving treatment at the National Infectious Diseases hospital at Liliendaal, Georgetown.  At the time of her death, the unborn child was not at a viable age for delivery.

Meanwhile, a total of 46 new COVID-19 infections were recorded after 318 tests were done.

The new cases were recorded in Region One (three cases), Region Two (four cases), Region Three (13 cases), and Region Four (26 cases).

These new cases take the confirmed cases in Guyana, since March 2020, to 71,963.

There is one patient in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while eight persons are in institutional isolation. Another 238 persons are in home isolation.

To date, 70, 431 persons have recovered after they were diagnosed with the disease.
