Two more maternal deaths involving a 31-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman were recorded at the Georgetown Public Hospital this week.

According to a release from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), the 31-year-old woman died on January 6, 2023, while the 25-year-old woman died on January 1, 2023.

    Both their babies also died.

The News Room understands that both women experienced other health complications that are suspected to have contributed to their death.

The 25-year-old, who was treated for other health issues, reportedly experienced surgical complications. She was four weeks pregnant.

Meanwhile, the 31-year-old had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy that eventually led to much blood loss. She also experienced a cardiac arrest and was intubated for several days until she passed away.

Both deaths are being investigated by the hospital maternal mortality committee to ascertain the factors that caused or contributed to the deaths of both women.

“The GPHC expresses sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased and will make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time to render any assistance and information needed.

“The GPHC is appealing to the public to respect the confidentiality of the deceased and her family, and to allow them to mourn their unfortunate loss peacefully,” the release said further.
