Health centres across the country will be the subject of random visits as the Health Ministry hopes to accurately assess the services available and guarantee that medicines are always available for patients.

Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony in recent days visited several health centres on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) and the East Bank of Demerara (EBD).

He explained that such visits are necessary to assess the quality of services people receive. And he promised that visiting the health centres will be an ongoing exercise.

“One of the things we want to do is random checks at our health centres because from time to time there would be complaints from people that the health centres are not functioning as they should,” Dr. Anthony said.

Some of the issues identified include the shortage of much-needed drugs and in some instances, the need for equipment to offer the services people often seek.

Dr. Anthony said that the drug shortage issue is one that the Ministry is keenly trying to remedy.

“That is something we are working on to put a better system in place so that medicines are always available to people,” he said.
