Region Three woman dies from COVID, 23 new cases reported

A woman from Region Three (Essequibo Islands- West Demerara) who was infected with the novel coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 disease has died.

The Ministry of Health in a statement on Tuesday said that the woman, whose vaccination status is unknown, died on January 22. Her passing takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 1, 294.

Further, the Ministry reported that another 23 persons were infected with COVID-19 over the last 24 hours.

These new cases take the total number of confirmed cases to 72, 878.

Meanwhile, there are five people in institutional isolation and 390 patients in home isolation and one person in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

To date, 71,188 persons have recovered since the pandemic started in March 2020.
