Team Guyana Robotics 2023, the nation’s first all-female robotics team, recently had the honor of visiting the Chinese embassy where they were warmly greeted by the Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Guo Haiyan. In a commendable show of solidarity and international friendship, the ambassador offered words of encouragement and was treated to a special demonstration of the competition robot by the gifted students.

A special highlight of the meeting was Team Guyana member T’Sehai Holder’s presentation of a painting she created during her participation in the Guyana-China Development Youth Leadership Programme Talent Segment. This art piece, symbolizing 50 years of deep-rooted friendship between Guyana and China, was generously donated to the Chinese embassy, adding a touch of artistic diplomacy to the occasion.

In a heartfelt gesture, Ambassador Guo Haiyan reciprocated by sharing gifts with the young robotics enthusiasts, extending best wishes for their forthcoming FGC challenge in Singapore 2023. Breaking new ground, Team Guyana will be debuting as the first all-female robotics team, vying for honors against youth from a staggering 190 countries worldwide.

The team, aptly named “Hydrogen Horizons”, aims to enlighten participants about sustainable energy, with a special focus on the creation of hydrogen power. Eager and prepared, Team Guyana is set to embark on their journey on October 3rd, returning to their homeland on October 12th.

Behind this impressive team stands STEMGuyana, a tech-focused educational organization that currently manages 41 learning pods that cater primarily to vulnerable children, offering them academic enrichment three times a week. This program is sponsored by the IDBLab and the sessions include a special technology day where these young minds are nurtured in coding and robotics.

The organization also manages 22 STEM clubs and plans to expand to 100 soon. Guyana’s future in tech and education looks promising, with organizations like STEMGuyana leading the charge and fostering young talent, paving the way for innovation and international collaboration.
