Three women dead, two critical after heavy winds hit Jawalla

Three persons died and another two individuals are in a critical condition after heavy winds hit the community of Jawalla in Region Seven (Cuyuni- Mazaruni) on Thursday.

This was confirmed by Regional Chairman Kenneth Williams.

The News Room understands the three women who died are: Celina Hope, Godfrena Fredricks and Celeste Albert.

The incident reportedly happened around 14:00 hrs. The heavy winds uprooted a tree that fell on the women.

The Regional Chairman said initial reports suggest that some of the affected individuals were on a farm. The affected persons were not able to flee in time.

A representative of the Civil Defence Commission also confirmed the storm but noted that there are “conflicting reports” of the situation on the ground.
