Farmers getting $850M fertiliser support

Farmers are among the key groups of people getting support from the government with $850 million set aside for the purchase of fertilisers.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali made the announcement on Thursday, noting that about 35,000 farmers who occupy some 287,000 acres of land will benefit.

Fertiliser prices have increased substantially over the past few years, causing significant hardship for farmers. So the government, before now, opted to purchase fertlisiers to distribute to farmers.

The President said this new $850 million support will help food production and contain costs for farmers.
