Demerara Bank awards 18 outstanding students

In July 2023, Demerara Bank initiated its annual Bursary Award Programme, inviting applications from students who had recently completed the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations. This program has now successfully concluded, highlighting yet another important achievement in the bank’s continuous commitment to advancing education and fostering the growth of young individuals.

This initiative, originally crafted to inspire students benefitting from Kids Savings Accounts, has proven to be a resounding success in empowering high-achieving individuals, encouraging them to continue their journey towards enhanced personal and academic growth.

At the award ceremony that was held on November 3, 2023, a total of eighteen (18) students who demonstrated exceptional success in the recent National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations were rewarded with a prize in the form of a monetary grant.

During the ceremony, the awardees had the opportunity to hear from a previous bursary award recipient, Ms. Dolai, who encouraged them to persist in their pursuit of education. They also received valuable insights from Ms. Amanda Ram, the former Headmistress of Graham’s Hall Primary School, who urged students to seize control of their destinies and remain resilient in the face of challenges.

In his address to the awardees, Mr. Pravinchandra Dave, CEO of the Bank, emphasized the vital roles that culture, attitude and tenacity play in fostering the growth and development of any individual. He encouraged all students to pursue their unique aspirations and chart their individual paths, while also cautioning parents against making career choices for their children, recognizing the uniqueness of each individual. He further remarked that their outstanding achievements represent not just their hard work and dedication, but also the unwavering support they have received from their families, teachers and the community at large.
