As part of efforts to fully harness and showcase Guyana’s culture, President Dr. Irfaan Ali recently announced that the government will soon invest in a new museum and art gallery.

The Head of State, during a year end interview with the News Room, emphasised the importance of preserving and fully harnessing Guyana’s culture.

“Culture and art are important parts of our society. We cannot build our tourism sector without culture and art, and we can’t continue to tell our history.

“We haven’t been able to harness the full potential of our culture in bringing our people together, in promoting our country,” he said.

To help do this, he disclosed that the government will this year invest in a new museum and art gallery.

“One of the things that I think we have to invest in is a state of the art museum and art gallery and we want to commence investments in this in the New Year,” the President said.

There are few museums in Guyana including the Guyana National Museum, the Museum of African Heritage and the Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology. Guyana’s National Art Gallery is located at the Castellani House, Georgetown.

The President believes that by promoting Guyana’s culture- which is known for as a unique blend of six different ethnic influences- Guyanese would appreciate their heritage more and the country can attract others interested in learning more.
