After an overladen truck resulted in damages to the temporary structure of the Pirara Bridge in Central Rupununi, Region Nine, a low-level crossing has been put in place.

This was revealed by the Ministry of Public Works on Thursday, hours after the truck transporting goods damaged the bridge.

The Pirara Bridge is an essential link for vehicles heading to and from Lethem.

“Inspections conducted by engineers of the Ministry of Public Works have revealed that the temporary timber decking of the bridge was broken,” the ministry stated.

Efforts are also underway to procure materials for bridge repairs.

“While traffic is currently flowing unhindered, and the scheduled work will continue on the bridge, the Ministry of Public Works urges drivers to exercise caution when transiting in this location,” the ministry said.
