Naomi Sampson, a 21-year-old from Devonshire Castle, Region Two (Pomeroon- Supenaam), has earned the prestigious honour of being named valedictorian at the Hunter College in New York.

Sampson, who now resides in Queens, New York,  graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. She was one of about 3,000 graduates.

The young woman’s educational journey began at Cotton Field Nursery School on the Essequibo Coast and then went to the St. Paul’s Primary School and the Apex Education school.

She gained a spot at Queen’s College after sitting the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) in 2014.

At the age of 15, Sampson moved to New York with her younger sister and mother, where she attended the John Adams High School.

Through dedication and hard work, she secured an academic scholarship to Hunter College, maintaining a perfect 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) throughout her studies.

This remarkable achievement took four years of effort, which she attributes to the steadfast support of her parents, particularly her mother and younger sister. Both of Sampson’s parents, who are educators, expressed immense pride in their daughter’s accomplishments.

Sampson plans to pursue a career in law, continuing her journey of excellence and dedication.
