Teen, with severe dengue, dies after giving birth

Lanita Jacobs of Hampton Court, Region Two, died recently after giving birth to a baby boy at the Suddie Public Hospital. According to reports, Jacobs was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday last after complaining of feeling unwell.

She was 19-years-old, eight months pregnant and underwent an emergency C-section. The baby is admitted in a critical condition in the neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to reports, after giving birth, Jacobs was transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital. She passed away on Saturday last.

Relatives reported that doctors claimed that she was infected with dengue and experienced severe bleeding following the C-section.

She was transported to Georgetown by ferry, accompanied by an ambulance, but her family believes she might have survived if she had been airlifted.

Jacobs’ body is at the GPHC mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
