Jayin Kissoon, an 11-year-old pupil of the Marian Academy, emerged as one of Guyana’s top performers at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA).

The young Kissoon scored 502.33 marks, earning his fifth place in the country. He shared this spot with two others: Khayleigh Ramautar of Academy of Excellence and Yuan Shen of Canadian School of Arts & Science.

Once he got over the initial shock and excitement, the Queen’s College- bound boy highlighted just how focused he was on his NGSA studies. He spent much of his time studying, occasionally engaging in some leisurely activities on his IPAD.

Now he is eager to delve into his secondary education pursuits, hoping to study law one day.

    “I wanna study law.

“I wanna be a lawyer and follow in my father’s footsteps,” Kissoon told the News Room during an interview on Thursday.

His father, Devindra Kissoon is a prominent Guyanese lawyer. He holds a full practicing certificate enabling him to practice in England and Wales; he was also admitted to the Bars of Barbados, Guyana, and New York.

For the young Kissoon, a career in the legal profession is one he is particularly keen on to fulfil his ambition of serving others.

He emphasised, “There are a lot of injustices in the world and I wanna see if I can help to work against them.”
