The University of Guyana’s College of Medical Sciences is celebrating a major achievement as its School of Medicine secures a four-year extension of accreditation from the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP).

This renewed accreditation, which extends from 2024 to 2028, follows a rigorous evaluation process, including a comprehensive site visit and review of the School’s medical education program.

The CAAM-HP Board’s decision to extend accreditation highlights the University’s ongoing commitment to excellence in medical education. This prestigious recognition underscores the School’s adherence to the highest standards for producing skilled, ethical, and competent healthcare professionals.

Established in 2003 by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), CAAM-HP is the authoritative body responsible for setting and evaluating standards in medical, dental, veterinary, and other health professions across CARICOM states.

The authority’s role is crucial in maintaining the quality of health professions education, thus fostering confidence among students, stakeholders, and the public.

The University of Guyana’s School of Medicine has demonstrated its capacity to meet these stringent benchmarks, reinforcing its role in advancing healthcare in the Caribbean.

The accreditation affirms the School’s dedication to educational excellence and its mission to address the region’s health challenges while supporting sustainable development.

Looking ahead, the School of Medicine is poised to continue enhancing its medical education and research efforts, aligning with global health trends and addressing the specific needs of the Caribbean region.

This renewed accreditation serves as a testament to the School’s ongoing efforts to prepare graduates capable of tackling the region’s most pressing health issues.
