10 babies delivered at New Amsterdam Hospital on New Year’s Day

A total of ten infants were welcomed into the world at the New Amsterdam Hospital located in Region Six on New Year’s Day.

In a detailed interview with reporters, Kayla Williams, a resident of Canefield in East Canje Berbice, shared her personal experience of delivering her second child, a baby boy.

Originally anticipating her due date to be December 21, Williams, who is employed at Port Mourant Public Hospital, found herself admitted for delivery following a routine check-up at the hospital.

“I am very grateful to be delivering on New Year’s Day. I wasn’t expecting it but it happened,” she related, adding that the nurses and doctors were “very helpful.”

Another new mother, nineteen-year-old Eleyana Henry from Rose Hall Town, Corentyne Berbice, described her experience of bringing her firstborn son into the world. Eleyana had anticipated her due date to be January 7, demonstrating the unpredictability of childbirth.

“I thought it woulda be more painful, but it wasn’t that painful,” she revealed.

Dr. Vineshri Khirodhar, the Regional Health Officer for Region Six, expressed satisfaction with the positive feedback from new mothers regarding the exceptional treatment received from the hospital staff throughout their birthing experiences.

“It’s a new year; It’s the start of a brand new era and I am very pleased that the babies are here, they are safe, mothers are safe. They are happy with the treatment from the staff: the midwife, doctors and nurses. So I am very happy. It gives me a lot of compassion and I am extremely pleased that they are here with their healthy babies,” Dr. Khirodhar stated.
