Thousands of residents in Region Three now have improved access to upgraded asphaltic concrete roads.

The infrastructural works were undertaken in La Parfaite Harmonie, Onderneeming, Westminster, Recht-Door-Zee, and Lust-en-Rust.

The Ministry of Public Works Special Projects Unit (SPU) has completed approximately 31 kilometres of roadworks across these communities, fulfilling a commitment by President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali to enhance local infrastructure.

According to the SPU on Wednesday, Schoonord saw the most extensive upgrades, with 6,897.8 metres of roads rehabilitated, including Nursery School Street, Special Needs School Street and the Main Road.

In Onderneeming, 4,715.8 metres were upgraded, covering six key streets such as NCN Road, Fourth Street, First Cross Street, Fifth Avenue, Eight Cross Street, and White Shop Shortcut.

La Parfaite Harmonie benefitted from the largest single stretch, with 14,499.3 metres of roads being improved, including its main access road, Harmony Drive and several avenues and cross streets.

Recht-Door-Zee saw 2,923.2 metres of road being rehabilitated while Lust-en-Rust and Westminster had their main roads upgraded, spanning 1,074 and 1,084.8 metres, respectively.

Internal roads covering approximately 19 kilometres are currently being upgraded in the respective areas by some 74 small contractors from the region. These roads are also being rehabilitated in asphaltic concrete.

These infrastructure works form part of the government’s 2020-2025 manifesto commitments to foster infrastructural development as part of its regional growth agenda.

The government has allocated $209.3 billion in the 2025 budget to enhance the nation’s roads and bridges infrastructure (Republished from the Department of Public Information)
