In an exciting development, Guyana Electric, owned and operated by the dynamic duo Michelle and Keon Howard, has announced a strategic partnership with GE Vernova.

The partnership, revealed on the sidelines of the 2025 Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo, promises to enhance Guyana’s electric grid, deliver crucial local training, and foster long-term growth in the country’s energy infrastructure.

The partnership is set to bring together Guyana Electric’s deep understanding of local energy needs with GE Vernova’s cutting-edge power transmission expertise.

With a 51/49 ownership split, the Howards are at the forefront, driving local content and championing the inclusion of Guyanese talent in the energy sector.

Keon Howard, co-owner of the two decades-old Guyana Electric, expressed his enthusiasm for the joint venture and its focus on local training.

With a deep passion for his trade, Keon, who has been an electrician since he was 16, said the venture is a dream come true.

“We’re looking forward to tackling larger projects and contributing to Guyana’s future.”

Michelle Howard, co-owner and the female driving force behind Guyana Electric, echoed her husband’s sentiments, emphasising the significance of local content in the partnership.

“This joint venture is about more than just business – it’s about providing opportunities for Guyanese to benefit from the energy sector. Local talent deserves a piece of the pie,” she said.

As a passionate advocate for women in the workplace, Michelle urged other women not to be afraid to break into male-dominated industries.

“Ladies, don’t be afraid to step into spaces where you might feel like you don’t belong. Find a partner you trust, and push forward,” Michelle advised.

Douglas Hasburn of GE Vernova shared his excitement about the partnership, highlighting the company’s commitment to Guyana.

“We’ve been looking for a partner in Guyana since 2017, and this is the most important long-term relationship for us,” he explained.

GE Vernova’s involvement goes beyond training; the company is actively participating in tenders, EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) partnerships, and providing solutions to EPC contractors already working with GPL. This includes supplying key components such as power transformers and circuit breakers, as well as offering technical support to GPL contractors.

The Guyana Electric and GE Vernova partnership is already in motion, with several projects underway in collaboration with local contractors. As discussions continue with GPL, the two companies are ensuring that training is integrated into every phase of their work.
