United Kingdom (UK) Foreign Secretary David Lammy has reiterated Britain’s unwavering support for Guyana’s territorial integrity after a Venezuelan patrol vessel on Saturday violated the nation’s maritime space.

In a statement on Sunday, Lammy condemned the provocative act, emphasising the UK’s commitment to Guyana’s internationally recognised borders. The Foreign Secretary called on Venezuela to refrain from further actions that undermine Guyana’s sovereignty.

“Yesterday, Venezuela violated Guyana’s maritime territory in a provocative act,” Lammy stated. “The UK is steadfast in its support for Guyana’s internationally recognised territorial integrity and urges Venezuela to refrain from such actions.”

The violation of Guyana’s maritime territory has raised concerns over the ongoing tensions between the two neighbouring countries.

The UK has long been a supporter of Guyana’s rights to its territory and continues to stand by its position on the matter.

The UK’s swift reaffirmation of support sends a strong message of solidarity to Guyana, as the country seeks to protect its sovereign rights against external challenges.
