Two fishermen missing, relative fears they drowned 

Vishal Parmanand, 17, and Daniel Inchanally, 32, both from Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice, are reportedly missing, and their families believe they may have drowned.

Vishal’s father, Mahendranauth Parmanand, informed the media that he had recently repaired one of his boats at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne Berbice, and had planned to retrieve it on Wednesday. However, his worker, Daniel, was adamant about taking the vessel out on Tuesday.

Mahendranauth mentioned that a new engine had been installed in the boat, and he observed as his worker and Vishal departed the location around 15:30 hrs. He followed behind in another boat but arrived at Three Door Sluice in Rosignol before they did.

According to Mahendranauth, upon his arrival at the landing site, he found no trace of the two. He attempted to contact his son’s phone but received no answer. He continued to call late into Tuesday night but still got no response.

Concerns about something being wrong prompted Mahendranauth and another son to begin their search efforts. Throughout this time, he repeatedly called Vishal’s phone but received no response.

While in the Whim, Corentyne area, Mahendranauth called Vishal’s number and was answered by a man who informed him that he had discovered an abandoned boat at Tain, Corentyne, which contained a bag inside.

Mahendranauth quickly went to the site and verified that the boat was indeed his and that the bag and phone were his son’s belongings.

He reported the occurrence to the authorities.

Mahendranauth mentioned that Vishal and Daniel were supposed to arrive in Rosignol around 21:00 hrs Tuesday.

Daniel’s father, Narine Sundar, who has 43 years of experience in fishing, relayed that if anything were to happen in the Atlantic Ocean, it would be challenging to swim to safety.

The two families will persist in their efforts to find Vishal and Daniel.
