See below the full release from the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo):

The Uitvlugt Estate is the first of the four estates to conclude its grinding operations for the First Crop 2025. The estate ended its crop during the week of 3rd May, surpassing its production target by 74 tonnes. It maintains a consistent performance trend of achieving its targets for the 1st crop each year for the past three years. The Corporation wishes to express its satisfaction of the timely completion of the crop and commend the Uitvlugt’s team.

Rainfall has significantly surpassed the long-term average, with the Berbice Estates recording 212% and Demerara 160% of the established Long-Term Mean (LTM). Fifty-one percent of the available days, were classified as wet days. This early onset of rainfall, preceding the usual May/June rainy season severely hindered harvesting operations. The unseasonal rainfall has tremendously reduced harvesting capacity, resulting in approximately 225,000 tonnes of canes, yet to be harvested, equivalent to in excess of 18,000 tonnes of sugar.

Given the above, the Corporation has strategically consolidated its operations to Albion and Blairmont Estates in an effort to minimize the quantity of canes to be carried forward to the Second Crop.

The Second Crop of 2025 is expected to commence mid-July.
