Guyana is a nation brimming with opportunity, and with this growth comes an increasing need for manpower. Outgoing Chairman of the Private Sector Commission (PSC), Komal Singh, has made a heartfelt appeal to Guyanese citizens facing poverty, urging them to reach out for assistance.

Speaking at the 33rd Annual General Meeting of the PSC on Tuesday, Singh emphasised that anyone willing to work hard can improve their circumstances and benefit from the country’s ongoing development.

However, he was clear that commitment and determination are essential prerequisites.

“I want to say one thing to the public… Across the length and breadth of Guyana, we have seen over the year, pockets of video evidence coming out where people are saying they are living in poverty.

“I can understand people living in poverty if there is no opportunity… In a country where there is an abundance of opportunity. I am challenging anybody out there publicly who tell me they live in poverty, come to me. I will take you out of poverty within one of six months providing you are willing to do two things – you [are] willing to work six days a week and [you are] willing to come out of poverty,” Singh said.

His remarks were a call to action, encouraging Guyanese to seize the moment and engage in the numerous opportunities available across various sectors.

“There is a big future ahead of Guyana… This country has a wonderful opportunity that we should all capitalise on right now,” Singh added.

Singh, who served as Chairman of the PSC for the past two years, has been a vocal advocate for national development and personal empowerment through hard work.

His successor, Gerry Gouveia Jr., was elected as the new Chairman of the Private Sector Commission.
