Ahead of the September 1, 2025, General and Regional Elections, General Secretary of the governing People’s Progressive Party Civic, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, said the party still believes it has much more work to do.

Jagdeo, who is also Guyana’s Vice President, spoke about the PPP’s plans for continued development across Guyana, should it be re-elected after the September polls. He has been outlining these plans for weeks, and at a party press conference on Thursday, he emphasised how serious the party is about continuing the work that started in 2020.

“We still have tons of things to do,” Jagdeo declared on Thursday.

Among the new ventures the PPP wants to focus on, he said, would be resolving traffic congestion, promoting road safety, and improving garbage collection efforts. He also noted that the party’s vision for the future includes promoting financial inclusion and literacy, establishing a development bank to support small and medium-sized enterprises, and developing state opportunities that citizens can invest in.

Previously, Jagdeo said the PPP would push for the continued digital transformation of Guyana and lower additional taxes.

Earlier in his press conference, Jagdeo defended the government’s infrastructure investments since 2020 as necessary ventures to support the population’s needs. He also highlighted key areas the government supported, including hiking public sector wages and salaries by about $105 billion since 2020, and investing in social services.
