Guyana is entering into a landmark agreement with Yale University’s Center for Biodiversity and Global Change focused on biodiversity science, data, and technology.

The agreement was announced by President Irfaan Ali on Wednesday as he opened the Global Biodiversity Alliance.

“This is a monumental step forward—not just for Guyana, but for South-South and North-South collaboration in biodiversity science,” the President stated.

Under this agreement, Yale will help Guyana design a world-class International Centre of Excellence for Biodiversity Research and build a national biodiversity information system, with maps, dashboards, and data layers.

Further, the agreement with help guide Guyana in the application of cutting-edge biodiversity science to decision-making.

“We are building the global biodiversity knowledge infrastructure—from the ground up, and from Guyana out.

The President said Yale brings not only its world-class expertise, but also a network of partners including the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation, Map of Life, and the broader GEO community.
