TEAM B defeated TEAM A by seven wickets in the Guyana Cricket Board’s Two-Day Under-17 trial match at the LBI Ground on Wednesday.

TEAM A was captained by Richard Ramdeholl, and TEAM B by Dave Mohabir in the red ball game.

On the opening day, TEAM A made 107-12 innings closed and by stumps, TEAM B responded with 174-12 innings closed.

With a lead of 67, TEAM A made 165-13 innings closed in their second turn with right-hander Danesh Persaud making a top score of 42 off 58 (5x4s), the first batter to get past 40 in the match.

Skipper Ramdeholl scored 28 off 35 (3x4s), while Jonathan Mentore chipped in with 17 off 23 (2x4s).

Bowling for TEAM B, the impressive seamer Shane Prince picked up 4-27, captain Mohabir bagged his second three-wicket haul in the game 3-23, Jathneil Nurse 2-15, Darwin Joseph 1-24, Reyaz Latif 1-25 and Feaz Baksh 1-34.

Set a target of 99, TEAM B coasted to victory at 103-3 in 25.4 overs with opener Lomar Seecharran ending the contest with a six off Gibran Yacoob over deep mid-wicket.

Seecharran ended on 49 not out off 73 (6x4s, 1×6), the highest individual score of the match.

Seecharran and Vishal Williams, who made 35 off 53 (5x4s), put on 72 in 17.5 overs to put TEAM B on course for the win.

Navindra Sankar (1-8), Gavin Kisten (1-14) and Ramdeholl (1-26) were the wicket-takers for TEAM A.

The trial fixture formed a crucial part of the Guyana Cricket Board’s early preparation for the upcoming Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Under-17 Tournament, which will take place in Trinidad and Tobago from August 11 to September 2.

The match served as the final opportunity for players to impress the selectors before the national squad is announced.

The selected group will now move into encampment starting August 2 as the team continues its build-up to the regional competition.
