With President Dr Irfaan Ali announcing the introduction of containerised healthcare posts, residents of Region Three can expect a major transformation in primary healthcare delivery.

“We have to take care of you from birth, and that is why in every community we will put a containerised primary healthcare outpost that will allow you to monitor your sugar, pressure levels and give us the data that is necessary to take proactive steps in building a healthy population in Region Three,” President Ali during the commissioning of the De Kinderen Regional Hospital on Monday.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader push to modernize all the region’s clinics into state-of-the-art primary healthcare providers, bringing services directly to citizens.

“The healthcare system of tomorrow is not about waiting for you to feel sick to visit the hospital. It is about proactively reaching you so you can take care of yourself without having the need to go to the hospital,” the head of state said.

He explained that building a healthier population requires early intervention. And so, this includes a renewed focus on children’s nutrition and lifestyle habits. As part of the programme, the government will support school feeding initiatives of a nutritional nature, ensuring that meals contribute to healthy living.

“Not only are we nourishing the brains and minds, but we are training the body to eat healthy and live healthy. We want the minds of the future to be trained differently, the President said.

Last month, the President announced another initiative that aims to balance academic learning with physical wellness, with Friday afternoons dedicated entirely to sports and physical or recreational activities.

Over the next five years, significant investments will be made to improve recreational facilities in schools nationwide.
