With the expansion in the construction sector and the growing demand, President Dr Irfaan Ali says Guyana is steering its economy toward becoming a “mass manufacturing and industrial base” capable of meeting both domestic and international demand.

“That is what we are leading the economy into. A mass manufacturing and industrial base to satisfy this demand,” President Ali said at the opening ceremony of Building Expo 2025 on Thursday night at the Providence National Stadium.

The Head of State urged foreign investors to think beyond retail and seize the opportunities in production.

“For the international exhibitors who are here, this is not a retail market. If you are serious about doing business, get into a partnership with the local private sector and bring your manufacturing plan, your industrial plan here in Guyana,” Dr Ali said.

He pledged that the government stands ready to provide the necessary support.

“We will give you the incentive to bring it here so the jobs will be created here, the income will be created here, and the revenue will be created here. We want a great Guyana,” he said.

The President pointed to the rapid expansion in the construction sector, which he said has fuelled unprecedented demand for building materials such as steel, cement, sand, and paint.

In fact, he outlined that over the past four years, paint production alone has surpassed 40 million liters, while stone production has increased almost sevenfold, reaching close to 10 million tonnes. He noted that sand production is also growing.

“When local production increases, demand for jobs increases, prices come down, and expansion takes place,” he said.
