President Dr Irfaan Ali has reaffirmed the PPP/C government’s vision for Silica City, declaring it will be “a global model city” as the transformative urban project advances through its multi-phase development.

“Silica City will be a global model city, hands down. You will see it. Everyone will want to live in it. There is no second-guessing this.

“We already are on it, already receiving international accolades, even in its design phase,” President Ali declared.

Speaking about the landmark initiative during his address at the opening ceremony of Building Expo 2025 on Thursday night, the President said Silica City, located along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway, will consist of three phases.

Phase two specifically targets the diaspora market to create opportunities for overseas Guyanese to invest here.

The government has set aside some 3,800 acres of land for the Silica City project, and work on the infrastructure is already underway, with 110 houses being constructed.

In addition to green areas and other facilities, the state-of-the-art development will include smart homes outfitted with the newest energy-saving technologies.

“Silica City is not just about buildings. It is about building a future, one that is inclusive, sustainable and filled with opportunities,” President Ali said.
