Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, has hailed Building Expo 2025 as a “one-stop shop” for thousands of Guyanese seeking opportunities in homeownership, construction, and innovation.

The four-day event, held from August 14 to 17 under the theme “Road to Success – Guyana 2030 and Beyond,” saw the distribution of more than 2,100 land titles, the signing of over 1,100 agreements of sale, and the issuance of 275 steel and cement vouchers valued at $60 million.

According to Minister Croal, the expo was designed to provide comprehensive support to citizens at every stage of the homeownership journey. “It doesn’t matter which stage you are at. You could have come to the expo and engaged with an exhibition that had something relevant to you,” he said.

The event attracted 28 international companies from 10 countries, alongside a wide range of local exhibitors. Booths focused on planning and construction, while local banks showcased financing options to assist potential homeowners. Technology and innovation also featured prominently, with displays of pre-fabricated housing options alongside traditional building methods.

“Any relevant information that you needed in terms of construction, you could have come,” Minister Croal added, noting that the initiatives on display were aimed at guiding applicants through home planning, financing, and access to building materials.

He also urged pending and past applicants to take advantage of the opportunities highlighted at the expo. “This is what we want people to do. Once you are a pending applicant your planning can start now. You can start your design, model…and be pre-prepared,” Croal explained, assuring that applications under the current system would continue to be addressed under a future PPP/C government.

Since 2020, the government has allocated more than 51,000 house lots, surpassing its target of 50,000, and continues to roll out programmes to make homeownership more accessible to citizens.
