Promising Guyanese female cricketers Ashmini Munisar, Realeana Grimmond, Mandy Mangru, and Niya Latchman are among 15 players participating in a specialised training camp at the Super Kings Academy in Chennai, India.

The two-week programme is part of Cricket West Indies’ (CWI) initiative to provide a world-class development opportunity for its emerging talent.

The squad, which includes several players already capped at the senior level, focuses on enhancing their performance against spin bowling in challenging subcontinental conditions. The program emphasises technical development, mental conditioning, and cultural adaptation—all essential skills for international success.

Head coach Merissa Aguilleira and assistant coaches Ryan Hinds and Guyanese Tremayne Smartt are guiding the team.

“Following the tremendous success of our male players’ training camp in December, we are proud now to extend this opportunity to our most promising female cricketers,” said Miles Bascombe, CWI Director of Cricket.

He added that the initiative is designed to “build a deeper, more resilient player pool and ensure gender parity in developmental opportunities.”

This programme marks CWI’s long-term commitment to a comprehensive player development model. Plans are to alternate between male and female groups annually.

The 15-member group features some players capped at senior level including Ashmini Munisar, Zaida James, Djenaba Joseph, Jahzara Claxton, Jannillea Glasgow, Realeanna Grimmond, Trishan Holder, Mandy Mangru and Nerissa Crafton, in addition to present and former West Indies Under 19 stars Naijanni Cumberbatch, Niya Latchman, Samara Ramnath, Shunelle Sawh, Steffie Soogrim and Selena Ross.
