Guyanese cyclists have performed credibly at the Caribbean Junior Cycling Championships in Barbados, with Alexander Newton and Alexander Leung securing top-five finishes.

In the Juvenile Male 11.4km time trial, Alexander Newton finished just off the podium in fourth place. His time of 17 minutes 11.3 seconds put him behind a competitive field led by Barbados’ Jonah Kelly, who took gold in 15 minutes 59.7 seconds.

Meanwhile, Alexander Leung secured a solid fifth place in the Junior Male 17.1km category. Leung’s time of 25 minutes 0.5 seconds placed him just behind Belize’s Keith Enwright.

Puerto Rico’s Amaury Santiago Perez won the event with a time of 22 minutes and 48.7 seconds.

Sidwell Sandy is also representing Guyana in Barbados and will compete today as the focus shifts to the road races.

These are set to begin today at 07:30h and will cover a course of between 12 and 14 laps, depending on the category.
