The national Under-20 female football team has made a significant leap in the regional football rankings, breaking into the top 10 of Concacaf’s women’s football for the first time.

The team climbed from 11th to 10th following an impressive unbeaten run during the February Concacaf U-20 Women’s Qualifiers.

Their qualifying campaign, held in Antigua and Barbuda, was highlighted by a historic 1-0 victory over Haiti, a nation the Junior Lady Jags had never defeated at this level.

This landmark win secured their qualification for the Championship play-offs in May and served as a powerful statement of their growing prowess.

The team’s journey included a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Belize and a commanding 5-0 win over the hosts, Antigua and Barbuda.

This achievement is a significant step toward the Guyana Football Federation’s long-term goal of breaking into the world’s Top 50, Concacaf’s Top 10, and the Caribbean Football Union’s (CFU) Top 5.

According to Bryan Joseph, the Technical Director of the Guyana Football Federation, this milestone is a “testament to the talent, dedication, and resilience” of the players.

He added that the Lady Jags have shown that “Guyana’s football is not only evolving—it’s making its mark.”

The success of the U-20 team is part of a broader trend of development in women’s football in Guyana.

The U-14 girls’ team recently demonstrated its potential by going unbeaten until the semifinals of the CFU Challenge Series, further proving that a vibrant new generation of talent is emerging.
