Leading left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul is preparing for life after his playing career by completing his Level III coaching certification.

The 36-year-old, the top wicket-taker for the Guyana Harpy Eagles in the recent West Indies Four-Day Championship, is already looking to the next chapter of his career.

Speaking to News Room Sport, Permaul said he was “extremely proud” of the accomplishment. “Over the years, my passion for cricket has been fueled by the joy of taking wickets and contributing to the teams I’ve played for,” he said.

“Now I am excited to channel that passion into developing and inspiring the next generation of players. Coaching gives me the platform to share not only my technical knowledge and skills, but also the lessons of discipline, resilience, and teamwork that the game has taught me.”

Permaul, who has 668 wickets in 151 first-class matches, is the most successful regional spinner and now targets 700 wickets.

His new qualification marks a significant step towards a future in coaching, where he hopes to work with players at all levels and “contribute to the growth of cricket through mentorship and guidance.”
