Thomas Dooley arrives in Guyana to take charge of Golden Jaguars

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has officially welcomed its new Senior Men’s National Team head coach, Thomas Dooley, with the former USA international arriving in the country to begin his role.

Dooley, 64, is set to embark on a packed schedule of meetings with GFF leadership, staff, and coaches and conduct his first training sessions with domestic players.

His initial visit focuses on laying the groundwork for the team’s upcoming campaigns and building a solid foundation.

His appointment marks a new era for the ‘Golden Jaguars’ and is part of the GFF’s strategic plan to elevate the national programme.

Dooley brings an impressive resumé to the role.

During his playing career, he earned 81 caps for the United States, including captaining the team at the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

He holds a UEFA Pro License as a coach and led the Philippines to a historic, unbeaten qualification campaign for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

GFF President Wayne Forde had expressed his confidence in the new head coach, stating that Dooley “brings a full set of tools and expertise” for the federation’s new direction.

Upon arrival, Dooley said he was “honoured and excited” to take the role.

“I have been deeply impressed by the talent and potential of this group of players, and I firmly believe they can achieve even greater heights,” he added.

Dooley’s immediate focus will be to assess the current player pool and build his technical team in preparation for future international tournaments.
