With 18 active road construction sites along the East Bank, Traffic Chief urges patience 

Motorists travelling along the East Bank Public Road are being urged to exercise patience as construction at 18 active sites is causing heavy congestion and lengthy delays, Traffic Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mahendra Singh, said on Wednesday.

Singh, said the ongoing works are contributing to slow-moving traffic, particularly during peak hours. Police ranks are being deployed daily to manage the flow, but Singh cautioned that commuters also need to play their part.

“There will be delays, there will be congestion. Don’t overtake and add to the burden,” Singh told News Room Guyana.

With more than 400,000 vehicles on the roads, commuters are being advised to plan their journeys carefully, allow extra time, and avoid reckless driving. Singh warned that overtaking in congested areas not only worsens delays but also heightens the risk of accidents.

“The only time people want to see the police is when there is confusion. Let us remain objective and follow the rules to ensure safety for everyone,” he said.

Singh added that with the festive season approaching and large crowds expected in central shopping areas, early planning and adherence to traffic advisories will be crucial to minimising congestion and keeping the roads safe.
