Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues, has announced that fifteen new hotels are currently under construction across the country and upon completion they will add approximately 2,000 rooms to Guyana’s current room stock within the next two years.

“We are working on 15 new hotels right now across the country that will add 2,000 rooms to our current room stock. We expect this to be completed within the next two years,” Rodrigues said while speaking at a recent event.

She emphasized that the government’s focus goes beyond seasonal attractions.

“We are not looking forward only to CPL (Caribbean Premier League) or Carnival or Mashramani alone. We have to, every month, ensure that we have a calendar of events so that anybody thinking about travelling to Guyana, a visitor or a member of the diaspora, will have things to do here any month of the year,” she stated.

Rodrigues underscored that the government’s goal is to ensure continuous travel and an enjoyable visitor experience.

“We have to, as a government, ensure that the travel is constant so when people arrive here they feel safe in the environment, they have places to stay, accommodation and service available to them, and that there are business opportunities,” she said.

She added that local businesses will continue to play a key role in supporting tourism growth. “Local businesses will continue to create and use all of the initiatives to attract more people to Guyana.

“Because when you have a constant flow of people in the country, they are always looking for something to do, and there must be family-oriented events for day and night,” Rodrigues noted.

Expressing optimism about the sector’s trajectory, Rodrigues expressed confidence that Guyana’s tourism and hospitality sector will continue to grow in the next few years.
