ExxonMobil Guyana Limited (EMGL) on Saturday opened its Gas-to-Energy (GtE) Pipeline project to the public at Westminster Secondary School, West Bank Demerara, offering residents a chance to engage with the project team and learn about pipeline safety.

The initiative, held from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, allowed community members to meet with engineers and operations staff, ask questions, and gain insights into the construction and operation of the country’s first natural gas pipeline.

The open house was designed to allow residents to meet and interact with the Gas-to-Energy (GtE) Pipeline Project Team, gain detailed information on pipeline safety, and have their questions and concerns addressed directly by experts. Attendees were able to speak one-on-one with engineers and operations staff, learn about pipeline construction, and understand the safety measures in place to protect communities living near the project.

Kevin Hirshberg, EMGL’s Operations Manager for the GtE Pipeline, spoke with News Room during the event. “The goal for today is really to meet with the community members that live in the vicinity of the pipeline, go over some basic pipeline safety, pipeline construction, and what you need to know about living near this pipeline,” Hershberg said. “We’re really excited about the opportunities this pipeline provides, particularly in feeding the power plant the government is building, and we look forward to this engagement with local residents.”

The GtE Pipeline, located in Region Three, stretches from Nouvelle Flanders on the West Coast of Demerara to Reynstein on the West Bank of Demerara. It will transport natural gas from the offshore Liza Destiny and Liza Unity FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading) facilities to an integrated plant site under construction by the Government of Guyana. The plant will include both a power plant and a natural gas liquids facility, with operations managed by the government.

EMGL emphasised the importance of community awareness and safety, noting that natural gas in the pipeline—including methane, ethane, propane, and butane—operates at high pressures exceeding 1,800 psi (12,400 kPa) and is flammable. Residents were advised to respect pipeline markers, report any unusual activity along the Right-of-Way, and follow strict safety guidelines to prevent emergencies. In case of incidents, the public can contact EMGL at 592-227-4877.

This open house also offered information on job opportunities and local supplier partnerships through the Centre for Local Business Development (CLBD). Interested parties can visit [www.centreguyana.com](http://www.centreguyana.com) or EMGL’s Facebook page for career openings, supplier inquiries, and sponsorship requests.

The GtE Pipeline marks a significant milestone for Guyana’s energy sector, representing a joint effort between the government, ExxonMobil, and local communities to safely harness natural gas for sustainable power generation.
