Businesses in Guyana can expect faster, clearer and more predictable processing of local content certification applications starting January 2026, as the Ministry of Natural Resources introduces a structured timeline to modernise the system.

Under the new framework, sole proprietorships and landlords will see new applications processed within five working days and renewals completed in three. Fully Guyanese-owned companies and partnerships will have new applications reviewed in 15 working days, with renewals in 10, while all other companies can expect new applications processed in 21 working days and renewals within 15.

The Local Content Secretariat (LCS) stressed that these timelines start only once all required documents are submitted, ensuring transparency and consistency. An updated list of required documents will be available on the Ministry’s petroleum.gov.gy website.

To further streamline the process, the LCS encourages stakeholders to use the Local Content App, launched earlier this year, which connects suppliers with contractors and subcontractors across Guyana’s petroleum industry. An online portal for submitting applications will also go live in January 2026, making it easier than ever for businesses to access the service.

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) praised the move, noting that the new timelines and digital tools will improve efficiency, support local businesses, and enhance the ease of doing business in Guyana.

With these changes, companies can now plan with confidence, knowing exactly how long local content approvals will take, reflecting the government’s commitment to modernising public services and strengthening local participation in the economy.
