Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steven Jacobs, has announced that a major stakeholder engagement will be convened in the first week of January 2026 as government moves to chart a stronger, more structured path for the country’s creative sector.

“In the first week, very early in January you will see a major stakeholder engagement where we will speak to everyone in the creative industry …on how we can take…Guyana’s culture and the entire creative industry forward,” Jacobs said while speaking at an event on Saturday.

The meeting, Jacobs said is set to bring together artists, performers, entrepreneurs, producers and other players in the cultural space and will focus on developing a unified plan to elevate Guyana’s creative industries and strengthen the nation’s “orange economy.”

According to Jacobs Guyana is “uniquely placed,” with vast cultural assets that form the foundation of its growing creative economy.

He emphasized that the upcoming engagement will allow stakeholders to collectively shape strategies on how to expand opportunities, build capacity, and maximize the sector’s economic potential.

Jacobs further noted that the orange economy is a trillion-dollar global industry, generating significant spin-off benefits around the world.

Guyana, he added, aims to tap into this potential as part of its broader national diversification efforts.

The January meeting is expected to set the tone for a series of initiatives aimed at modernizing and professionalizing the creative sector, ensuring that cultural talent is supported and that the industry becomes a meaningful contributor to economic growth.
