Industrial Supply of Guyana (ISG) on Wednesday, January 21, officially inaugurated its SKF Seal Jet manufacturing capability at its Berbice Branch in Port Mourant. This marks a major milestone in the company’s long-term investment in local industry, skills development, and customer service in Region Six.

As part of ISG’s first-ever Customer Appreciation Event in Berbice, the launch was attended by customers, partners, and business leaders from across the region. Guests were treated to a live demonstration of the Seal Jet system, including the on-site production of a customised hydraulic seal by local machinist Vishal Victor.

This newly commissioned SKF Seal Jet system allows for rapid, on-demand production of customised industrial seals to precise specifications, significantly reducing lead times and equipment downtime for customers in a wide range of sectors. It also removes the need to source such products from outside the region.

Speaking at the event, ISG President and General Manager German Consuegra said the Port Mourant facility was always intended to be a long-term development project.

“From day one, this facility was designed with a future vision in mind. Less than a year and a half later, and after investing millions of dollars in assets, equipment, and readiness, we are here today officially launching this capability,” Consuegra said. “This is local talent delivering world-class capability, right here in Berbice.”

He noted that since the branch’s opening in August 2024, ISG has expanded its footprint through increased inventory, warehouse operations, power-generation solutions, and the introduction of FOTON heavy-duty trucks, with the Seal Jet installation representing the next phase of growth in Berbice.

Significantly, all machinists supporting the Seal Jet operation are Berbice natives and graduates of the New Amsterdam Technical Institute, underscoring ISG’s focus on developing local skills alongside advanced technology. Meanwhile, President of the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce, Poonai Bhigroog, praised ISG’s customer-focused approach and community investment.

“Strong businesses help strengthen communities, create employment, and contribute meaningfully to national development,” Bhigroog stated. “ISG’s customer appreciation initiative reflects professionalism, integrity, and a genuine commitment to business development in Corentyne and Guyana.”

Representing SKF, Orlando Gonzales described the installation as a strategic move to bring global engineering capability closer to customers.

“The Seal Jet Pro allows customized seals to be produced on demand with high precision and short lead times,” he said. “Together, SKF and ISG are bringing global expertise and local service to where it matters most.”

In addition, SKF service technician Robert Ranner, who supported the local team by providing technical skills and knowledge, also highlighted the versatility of the system and SKF’s commitment to long-term customer support through training, commissioning, and technical assistance.

The inauguration comes amid increasing economic activity in Berbice, driven by traditional industries such as rice, sugar, and fisheries, as well as growing opportunities in infrastructure, energy, mining, and port development. ISG said its expanded capabilities are expected to help improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime for businesses across the region.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to “responsible investment, local capacity building, and long-term partnerships” as it continues to expand its services in Berbice and across Guyana.
