The ‘Because We Care’ cash grant, an initiative that transfers funds to all schoolchildren, has been increased to $60,000, while a $20,000 transportation support grant will be introduced.

These budgetary measures were announced by Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh on Monday during the presentation of the 2026 National Budget.

Dr. Singh said the the $60,000 Because We Care cash grant will benefit 206,000 children in public and provate school, delivering $2 billion to households across the country.

With the Because We Care grant, the new transportation grant, and the usual $5,000 uniform allowance, each child in school will get $85,000 this year.
