Children living at Kilcoy/Chesney Housing Scheme and parts of Albion, Region Six, now have access to better early childhood education as the Albion Chesney Nursery School was commissioned on Wednesday.

Education Minister Sonia Parag said this school is more than a physical space for learning; it will improve the lives of children living at Kilcoy/Chesney and other communities in the area.

“It is about ensuring that all of those children who would have had to go into Albion back or to Fyrish will now be housed in this space,” Minister Parag said.

Minister Parag also said the investment in education emphasises the government’s commitment to enhancing education. She said the education sector boasts the second-largest Budget in 2026 because it is a critical sector.

“This is to ensure that your children will have the necessities to attend school. This is to take away the burden from you to find that money so that your children will be able to attend school,” the Education Minister said.

She said grants for children and teachers are provided for in the budget.

Additionally, Minister Parag said opportunities for education and development are beyond the construction of schools. She said access to tertiary education through the Guyana Online Academy for Learning (GOAL) and free education at the University of Guyana complement the financial support provided for every school-aged child.
