Shan Seejatan and Alain Hopkinson have cemented their status in Guyanese motorsport after being named Driver and Rider of the Year respectively at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) 2025 gala awards.

The pair headlined a star-studded evening at the Royal International Hotel, where the club celebrated a season defined by record-breaking speeds and an influx of new talent.

For Shan Seejatan, the “Driver of the Year” title was the culmination of a dominant campaign across multiple disciplines. Seejatan’s 2025 season was a masterclass in versatility; not only did he secure the Group Two circuit championship, but he also claimed the Vitz Cup endurance title.

His technical prowess was underscored by a new Group Two lap record, clocking a blistering 1:23.937s at the South Dakota Circuit. Seejatan’s ability to extract maximum performance from diverse machinery has marked him as the benchmark for the local grid as Guyana prepares for international GT3 competition in 2026.

    Hopkinson Rules the Two-Wheel Class

On two wheels, Alain Hopkinson was the undisputed standout. Crowning his season as “Rider of the Year,” Hopkinson swept the Super Stock B category, taking both the overall championship and setting a new class lap record of 1:18.293s.

His performances have been credited with revitalising the Super Stock B class, providing a competitive bridge to the elite A-class riders.

Hopkinson’s consistency throughout the year saw him fend off challenges from Matthew Vieira and international entry Daniel Linfoot, the latter of whom set the outright Super Stock A record (1:16.017s).

The gala was attended by senior government officials, including Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr., who hailed the G$150M investment over five years that has transformed the South Dakota Circuit.

    • Selected 2025 Honours:
    • Driver of the Year: Shan Seejatan
    • Rider of the Year: Alain Hopkinson
    • Endurance Champion: Adrian Fernandes
    • Female Class Champion: Malicia Lawrence
    • Group 4 Title: Andrew King

The evening also saw veteran Andrew King reclaim the Group 4 throne, while Afraz Allie secured a rare double by winning both the Starlet Cup and Group 3 championships.
