Alexandria Chasles found the back of the net six times on Monday as Guyana comprehensively defeated St. Vincent and Grenadines 14-0 in their final match in Group D of the Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Qualifiers in Aruba.

Despite the commanding victory, the Lady Jags finished third in the group behind winners Honduras and runners-up Jamaica.

Only the six group winners and the two best second-place finishers will advance to join the seeded quartet of the USA, Mexico, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Chasles was the clear standout for Guyana, scoring in the seventh, 33rd, 35th, 45+2, 51st and 60th minutes, while Ellie Biffin netted a double (28th and 43rd).

Adding a solitary goal each were Anaya Joseph (second), Arianna Chin (11th), Aliya John (22nd), Clarissa Lombardi (53rd), Avril Pasvolssky (65th) and Tanya de Vair (67th).

In their other three games, the Lady Jags drew 1-1 with Jamaica, defeated host nation Aruba 2-0, and lost 3-1 to Honduras.

    ‘A moment of pride’

President of the Guyana Football Federation Wayne Forde, reacting to the Lady Jags showing against St. Vincent and the Grenadines, praised the performance, describing it as a moment of pride for Guyanese football.

“Today’s performance was nothing short of an expression of class, courage and belief. It was pure joy seeing you all embrace the huge challenge this match presented and rising to the occasion with a convincing display of ruthless attacking football.

“I join with all of Guyana in congratulating you on your success as we celebrate this historic moment in your storied journey on the international stage. We are truly proud and thoroughly overjoyed, good luck going forward.”

The Guyana Football Federation also commends the technical staff, support personnel, and the families of the players, whose continued support remains vital to the development of women’s football in Guyana.

“This victory marks an important milestone in the journey of the U-17 Lady Jags and reinforces the Federation’s ongoing commitment to youth and women’s football development,” the Federation stated.
