Assistant Director of Sport, Franklin Wilson, has confirmed that some matches in the MODEC Tertiary Education Football tournament will be held at the new Bayroc National Stadium in Linden, which officially opens on Saturday, February 7.

The announcement came on Tuesday, as the Petra Organisation revealed that Banks DIH, through its Powerade brand, has joined in support of the inaugural tournament, which kicks off on February 8.

Wilson indicated that approval has been granted to host the Linden leg matches at the new facility.

Wilson charged the players to “grab the opportunity” both to showcase their talent on the field and to elevate their academic careers, as some of the sponsors could be paying close attention.

Joao Soares, Technical Manager at title sponsor MODEC, highlighted the social impact of the initiative: “Football and education are the two best tools we have for youth development. We are looking forward to the talent on display.”

14 institutions will contest the tournament, which will be played in each county in a home-and-away knockout format.

Teams advancing to the last eight will be outfitted with branded tournament uniforms.
