Roger Callender has been re-elected as President of the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GBBFF), revealing a bold vision to take the sport nationwide following a change of heart.

Callender had initially intended to walk away from the role, citing a crippling “lack of support” from his previous leadership group. However, he was persuaded to reconsider his position after receiving firm assurances that his vision for the sport would finally receive “tangible” backing.

With a revamped executive team now in place, Callender’s immediate priority is the launch of an ambitious ‘One Guyana’ tour.

The GBBFF’s administrative makeup has undergone a significant shift, with three new members joining the executive to replace outgoing officials.

For Callender, the change is not just about names, but about operational survival.

“Last year we had some inactive executives; only two persons were really active—myself and the General Secretary,” Callender told News Room Sport. “I have a new team now, and I am very confident in them.”

The new-look executive sees Vidish Sookram step in as Vice President, while Nathan Willburge and Intiaz Satar take over the treasury department.

Meanwhile, the centrepiece of the renewed mandate is a nationwide tour supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

The initiative will feature major bodybuilding events in Berbice, Essequibo, and Linden.

The strategy is designed to decentralise the sport, providing athletes outside the capital with vital competitive experience and earning opportunities.

The tour will serve as the primary build-up to the marquee Senior Championships in December, ensuring that the country’s best physiques are “on stage and ready” for the year’s climax.
