GFF successfully completes first Referee Introductory Course of 2026

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has successfully completed its first Referee Introductory Course for the year 2026, held at the National Training Centre (NTC) from February 6-8.

The course saw six participants successfully complete the programme, representing another important step in the GFF’s ongoing efforts to strengthen refereeing standards and capacity within Guyanese football.

The three-day course featured a blend of classroom instruction and practical field sessions, providing participants with a comprehensive introduction to the Laws of the Game.

Classroom sessions focused on the interpretation and application of the Laws, complemented by a fitness presentation outlining the physical requirements expected of match officials.

Participants also took part in on-field practical sessions, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in a live football setting.

The course was delivered by instructors Sherwin Johnson, Abdulla Hamid and Natasha Lewis. Lenval Peart served as Course Coordinator, overseeing the overall execution of the programme, while Tyrone Tyrell facilitated the fitness instruction component.

The GFF said: “The GFF remains committed to the continuous development of referees at all levels, recognising their vital role in upholding the integrity, fairness and professionalism of football in Guyana. Further refereeing education and development programmes are planned for later in 2026.”
