In a significant boost to his re-election campaign, incumbent Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) President Mahendra ‘Raj’ Boodhoo has received a formal endorsement from a heavyweight contingent of Surinamese drag racers.

The endorsement, issued on February 14 by the Boodhoo camp, saw top competitors from the neighbouring republic signal their desire for administrative continuity ahead of the club’s upcoming elections.

The joint statement was signed by prominent Surinamese figures Michael Namchand, Tony Namchand, and Raymond John, who have become fixtures at the South Dakota Circuit.

The group noted that their frequent participation in Guyanese events has effectively made the country a “second home” for their teams.

“The passion of the Guyanese fans is unmatched, and we have always enjoyed the thrill of competing on your soil,” the racers stated, highlighting the synergy that has developed between the two nations’ racing fraternities under the current executive.

The core of the endorsement rests on the rapid physical transformation of Guyana’s motorsport facilities.

The Surinamese contingent specifically praised Boodhoo’s push for a new international-standard drag strip, which is currently a centrepiece of the GMR&SC’s developmental roadmap.

The racers characterised the project as a “game-changer,” noting that modern, high-grip surfaces are essential for the evolution of high-horsepower machines in the Caribbean.

“We aren’t just looking for a place to race; we are looking for a facility that allows us to push our machines to the absolute limit safely and professionally,” the statement read.

The endorsement concludes with a direct call to the GMR&SC membership to maintain the club’s current trajectory.

The Surinamese stars expressed a clear desire to return to Guyana to compete on the completed strip under Boodhoo’s “continued leadership,” citing his proven “drive to take Guyana’s motorsport scene further than ever before.” (Press Release)
