Guyanese can now access discounted hotel accommodation at six hotels offering a special local rate of US$200 per night plus tax, with no booking conditions attached, according to Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues.

The minister confirmed during a recent interview that the initiative is already underway and is part of a broader government push to ease travel costs and provide greater relief to citizens, particularly as the country experiences increasing demand for accommodation and transportation.

Rodrigues explained that the initiative targets hotels that previously charged significantly higher rates.

Unlike some promotional hotel packages that require advance payment or minimum-night stays, Rodrigues stressed that this local rate comes with no restrictions.

“That is without any condition. So you don’t have to book in advance. You don’t have to have a certain amount of rooms that you’re booking. You can walk in and get the Guyanese rate,” she said.

The minister noted that while not every hotel with rates above US$200 per night has joined the programme, six have agreed to participate so far.

Hotels include Aiden by Best Western, Royal International, and seasonal discounts at Jewels/King’s Residences.

“Aiden is offering that special rate throughout the year…regardless of whether we have a promotion or not,” she said.

Other participating hotels have agreed to offer the special rate on a seasonal basis.

Rodrigues explained that Jewels, which reportedly launched with rates between $300 and $400 per night, will apply the US$200 plus tax Guyanese rate during promotional periods such as Easter and Mashramani.

“That is a huge discount for Guyanese, given their brand and the niche,” she noted.

In addition to the six hotels charging above $200 that have joined the programme, Rodrigues revealed that several hotels already offering rooms below that threshold have begun reducing rates even further for locals.

“There are other hotels whose rates are below US$200 and they too, some of them have an even further reduced rate for Guyanese,” she said.

She encouraged Guyanese to ask for the local rate when making reservations, once the hotel is participating.

Rodrigues also clarified that the initiative is not restricted to hotels along the coast or within Georgetown, pointing to similar discounts being offered in interior locations.
