U.S. brings ‘fairness in price’ as interest grows in Guyana’s oil future – Ambassador

United States Ambassador to Guyana Nicole Theriot says American companies remain deeply invested in Guyana’s rapidly expanding oil and gas sector, with the United States bringing not only technical expertise but also “fairness in price” and long-term sustainability to projects.

Speaking with the News Room on the sidelines of the fifth edition of the Guyana Energy Conference, Ambassador Theriot said the level of U.S. involvement was impossible to miss.

“You need to look no further than the lanyards everyone is wearing that say ExxonMobil, because they’re sponsoring the conference,” she noted, pointing to the visible presence of US firms across the event.

Theriot said the growing international attention surrounding Guyana’s oil boom continues to attract American companies eager to play a role in the country’s unfolding energy story.

“I think there are so many U.S. companies that are interested in being a part of Guyana’s story… it’s only getting more interesting,” she said.

The Ambassador emphasised that the United States brings strong value to Guyana’s energy development, particularly in terms of reliability and long-term investment.

“We bring quality, we bring longevity, we bring sustainability, and we bring fairness in price to all of the projects that we do,” Theriot said.

She described these elements as beneficial for Guyana as the country continues to expand its oil and gas production while building out its supporting industries.

Beyond business, Theriot also stressed that American involvement comes with a major emphasis on corporate social responsibility, particularly in the area of workforce development.

“We also bring a very important corporate social responsibility, which includes labour training, labour force training and bringing new skills to the table,” she explained.

She added that this is especially important as Guyana continues to upscale its workforce to meet the needs of the booming petroleum industry.

“That’s something that Guyana certainly could use as you upskill your labour market here to meet the needs of this growing industry,” she said.

As Guyana looks ahead to the next edition of the Energy Conference in 2027, Theriot signalled that US participation will remain strong and that the partnership between the two countries in the energy sector is only set to deepen.

“It’s abundantly clear that the U.S. has great interest in continuing our really excellent relationship with Guyana’s oil and gas industry,” she said.
